Description

The new LEED Gold home for the Gatton College of Business and Economics unites a 1963 building, a 1992 wing, and a new infill 65,000-square-foot classroom and events addition, around a new 7,000-square-foot atrium, completing the work of three generations to create a state-of-the-art 226,000-square-foot center for business education at UK’s historic core.

Taking advantage of the site’s natural topography, the new primary entrance is on the second floor, facing UK’s main quadrangle. This ceremonial entry leads to an atrium—the school's living room—naturally lit by clerestory windows and featuring a variety of seating options, a café, and a monumental social stair. State-of-the-art technology-enabled classrooms, an advanced lecture hall, a dedicated real-time finance learning facility, and collaborative study spaces throughout the building emphasize the way business is conducted in the 21st century. The building’s interiors are expressed in a crisp contemporary style, with light natural wood, white walls, and cool metal finishes. The existing building’s facades were reskinned; new limestone and brick facades continue the palette of the UK campus.
