One Museum Mile at 1280 Fifth Avenue

1280 Fifth Avenue, located on Duke Ellington Circle at the northeast corner of Central Park, will be home to the first museum on New York's Museum Mile, the Museum for African Art. The building's L-shaped plan cradles a plaza on the circle facing west toward Central Park. The residential entrance on Fifth Avenue leads to a lobby with elevators that bring residents and visitors to amenities (including a health club and a party room) on the fourth floor and the apartments above. The setbacks at the fifth and eleventh floors provide terraces for apartments looking west and south. Though the museum maintains its own distinct identity within the larger structure, the 16-story residential tower carries upward the rhythm of the museum facade with trapezoidal wall panels. The dimensional relief of the facades creates a sense of movement and emphasizes the verticality of the building.
