Hickey Freeman Shop
Hickey Freeman is a venerable American men's clothing company which has sold wares through men's specialty shops and department stores for 100 years. This shop, the first built exclusively to showcase the company's line, reflects the heritage of the brand and the classic American style it represents. Our challenge was to transform a 4,000 square foot space which had previously been the lobby of a 1957 Modernist building on a prime stretch of Fifth Avenue. Oversized Doric columns surround the existing structural columns that support the 39 story building above. Abstracted coffering and beams provide a framework to organize and conceal the sophisticated lighting and mechanical equipment required for contemporary retailing. Beige walls and trim, French limestone floors, and limed oak cabinetry provide a warm yet neutral backdrop for display.
RAMSA Partners Robert A.M. Stern and Graham S. Wyatt led the design.
