SCUP North Atlantic Symposium at Bronx Community College

SCUP North Atlantic Symposium at Bronx Community College

The Society for College and University Planning's North Atlantic Regional Council will convene for the symposium "One Campus. Two Institutions. Three Libraries." on June 7, 2019 at Bronx Community College. RAMSA Partner Jennifer L. Stone is sponsorship co-chair for the Council, and RAMSA Partner Alexander P. Lamis will be one of three featured speakers, along with Robin Auchincloss, Director of Campus and Facilities Planning at Bronx Community College, and Samuel G. White, Principal of PBDW Architects, who leads the Committee to Save the Gould Library. The talk will center around the merits of each library and how it exemplifies and adapts to its evolving mission of making information more accessible over time.

Originally an uptown campus for New York University, the Bronx Community College has three libraries designed in the 19th, 20th, and the 21st centuries by leading architects: Stanford White's Gould Memorial Library (1900); a library in Marcel Breuer's Meister Hall (1964); and North Hall and Library (2012), a thoroughly 21st-century building designed by Robert A. M. Stern Architects that honors Stanford White's original vision for the campus. RAMSA Partners Robert A.M. SternGraham S. Wyatt and Alexander P. Lamis led the design for the BCC North Hall and Library.

SCUP North Atlantic organizes conferences and one-day symposia that capitalize upon the unique resources and skills of its diverse membership to address vexing problems faced by member colleges and universities. The Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) is a community of higher education leaders who are responsible for the integration of planning on their campuses and the professionals who support them. Members represent the areas of campus planning, institutional planning, academic planning, finance and budgeting, administration, IT, and institutional research who are charged with planning for the future of colleges and universities and the success of their students. SCUP’s mission is to develop individual and organizational planning capacities to strengthen and transform institutions of higher education.
