Description

Our second plan for the reinvention of Heiligendamm, the "white city by the sea" that is one of the oldest seaside resorts in Europe, knits new development carefully into the faded glory of the town while looking back to its original English Regency precedents to create an appropriate setting for the historic waterfront buildings, which are being reorganized to create a luxury apartment hotel with conference facilities and ample public amenities. A centrally located village green with restaurants and shops looks southwest over a new pond and golf course to farm fields and the sunset beyond. Main roads into the village converge on this green, and located a short walk to the east is a golf club and associated hotel. Western entry into the village is through a market square conceived as an extension of existing retail and institutional development.

Neighborhoods are organized around a network of parks and a clear hierarchy of roads that encompasses everything from wide gently curving boulevards to intimate winding residential streets. A wide variety of residences will include small mixed use and apartment buildings at the market square and village green, along with a variety of attached and detached single family houses. Architectural guidelines will ensure that new construction embraces and enhances the existing Neoclassical character of the historic town.

Heiligendamm will regain its former status as a grand European seaside resort, with approximately 260 acres of residential and commercial space at full build out, in addition to a town hall, a post office, educational facilities, 18 holes of golf, and facilities for tennis, swimming, skeet shooting, riding, and horse racing.
