Alexander P. Lamis to Speak at Colorado College

RAMSA Partner Alexander P. Lamis will participate in Colorado College’s Design Week, March 4 - 8, 2019, speaking on "The Fourth Generation Library" at a Lunch-and-Talk event on Monday afternoon, March 4. He will discuss how library buildings have evolved in response to both technological change and the democratization of knowledge, looking at historical case studies and libraries he and his colleagues have designed, which include major civic libraries in Nashville, Tennessee; Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Jacksonville and Clearwater, Florida; Lakewood, Ohio; Calabasas, California; and Bangor, Maine. An authority on library design, Mr. Lamis was also Project Partner on the LEED-Platinum George W. Bush Presidential Center at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, and North Hall and Library at Bronx Community College in New York. He contributed a chapter on sustainable design to the book Planning the Modern Public Library Building (Westport, Connecticut: Libraries Unlimited, 2003) and the article "Evolving Spaces: An Architect’s Perspective on Libraries" to Volume 28 of Advances in Librarianship (Oxford, England: Elsevier, 2004). He is a co-author of Designs for Learning: College and University Buildings by Robert A.M. Stern Architects (New York: Monacelli, 2016).
