Robert A.M. Stern to Give Keynote at Paul Rudolph Centennial Symposium

On October 26, Robert A.M. Stern will deliver the keynote address at the Paul Rudolph Centenary Celebration at the Library of Congress, a day-long symposium on Rudolph’s life and work, presented by the Paul Rudolph Foundation and the Library of Congress's Center for Architecture, Design, and Engineering. Mr. Stern’s keynote will focus on Paul Rudolph’s tenure as Chairman of the Department of Architecture at Yale University's School of Architecture from 1958 to 1965, a high point in his career as an educator and as an architect, addressing his efforts to assemble a faculty representing diverse viewpoints. Mr. Stern studied architecture at Yale under Rudolph from 1960 to 1965, during which time Rudolph realized his masterful Art and Architecture Building; as Dean of the Yale School of Architecture from 1998 to 2016, Stern supervised the renovation that led to its 2008 rededication as Rudolph Hall. Rudolph's archive, left to the Library of Congress's Center for Architecture, Design, and Engineering, will be on display in the Mumford Room on the sixth floor of the Library’s James Madison Building until November 5, 2018.

The Paul Rudolph Foundation was established to further the knowledge, understanding, and preservation of the work of Paul Rudolph. Through preservation and advocacy efforts, educational initiatives, public events and maintaining and developing an archive of written and graphic materials, the Foundation seeks to communicate the legacy of this unique American Master in a larger architectural and cultural context to interested students, journalists, scholars, and the general public.
