Ozark Hall Wins 2015 Palladio Award

Ozark Hall Wins 2015 Palladio Award
Traditional Building magazine announced that RAMSA's Honors Wing at Ozark Hall has won a 2015 Palladio Design Award in the Restoration & Renovation category.

The restoration and expansion of Ozark Hall carries forward the limestone Collegiate Gothic vocabulary established at the University of Arkansas by Jamieson & Spearl in the 1920s. The new 24,000-square-foot two-story wing, home to the University's Honors College, is a fraternal, not identical, twin to the existing east wing and seamlessly completes the building’s U-plan with trapezoidal stonework, over-window surrounds, a crenelated flat roof line, and a program of ornamental detailing. The old and new wings together define a landscaped upper court and a lower lawn to accommodate gatherings large and small. New operable windows that recall the building's original design replace fixed windows from previous unsympathetic renovations. Oak-stained doors at all entrances provide dignified welcome to visitors.

The Palladio Awards, produced by Clem Labine's Traditional Building magazine, are the only national awards program honoring traditional design. The 14th annual competition recognizes 10 architectural firms for outstanding work in traditional design for commercial, institutional, public, and residential projects. The awards will be presented on July 21, 2015 in Princeton, New Jersey during the Traditional Building Conference.

RAMSA partners Robert A.M. Stern and Gary L. Brewer led the design of the Ozark Hall addition. This represents the firm's sixth Palladio Award.
