RAMSA Partner Paul L. Whalen to Present Damrak 70 in Amsterdam
Paul L. Whalen will discuss Damrak 70, Robert A.M. Stern Architects' recently completed retail building in Amsterdam, at a press conference at the Academy of Architecture Amsterdam on December 1, the day before the building's official opening.
Sited on an important civic plaza in the center of Amsterdam, opposite H.P. Berlage's Beurs (1903), our design for Damrak 70 reinterprets Amsterdam's traditional palette of limestone and brick to present a contemporary expression that is in harmony with the building's smaller-scale neighbors. Syncopated fenestration and angled bays respond to the building's visibility across a broad plaza as well as the very acute angles from which the building will be approached along nearby narrow streets. Double-height shopfronts and an open-air shop-lined passage weave the building into the lively pedestrian experience of Amsterdam's fine-grained urban fabric.
RAMSA Partners Robert A.M. Stern, Daniel Lobitz, and Paul L. Whalen led the design. For more information, please click here.
