Robert A.M. Stern Architects Volunteers for Habitat for Humanity NYC

Robert A.M. Stern Architects participated in its second annual RAMSA Volunteer Build Day today. A group of 30 of the firm's employees—including Partners Dan Lobitz and Graham Wyatt—spent the day constructing and raising the walls of a new energy-efficient home in Queens for Habitat for Humanity, specifically following criteria for Enterprise Green Communities Certification. The project is part of one of the Queens Phase Two homes which will restore 23 abandoned and dilapidated properties acquired from the New York City Housing Authority to create affordable single-family homes for New York families. Director of RAMSA's Model Shop, along with Sarah Collins, also of RAMSA's Model Shop, coordinated the firm's involvement in the project.

Habitat NYC is a non-profit housing developer working with both government agencies and philanthropic donors to build, preserve, and advocate for quality affordable homes throughout the five boroughs, particularly for hard-working low-to-moderate-income families. Habitat homebuyers—who often include single parents, seniors, and public-service employees—earn 50% to 80% of area median income, have stable employment history and decent credit scores, agree to fulfill a "sweat equity" component, and participate in financial and homeownership education. Habitat NYC fulfills its mission by engaging volunteers with opportunities to participate in rebuilding their surrounding communities and uniting all New Yorkers around the cause of affordable housing.
