UConn Downtown Hartford Wins 2018 Connecticut Preservation Award

The Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation announced today that Robert A.M. Stern Architects' University of Connecticut Downtown Hartford campus will be honored with a 2018 Connecticut Preservation Award.

The new UConn Downtown Hartford campus restores and repurposes the historic Hartford Times Building as a symbolic new entrance, facing City Hall Park with restored staircases and a colonnaded portico. The 1920 Hartford Times Building was designed by architect Donn Barber, who sourced facade elements from Stanford White's Madison Square Presbyterian Church (1906) in New York City. The much beloved civic building is integrated into a new five-story academic building that provides offices and meeting rooms for academic departments, classrooms, teaching laboratories, student and administrative spaces, casual dining, and social spaces.

RAMSA Partners Robert A.M. Stern, Graham S. Wyatt, and Preston J. Gumberich led the design effort. For more information about the project, please click here.
