The new 189,000-square-foot College of Law building occupies a prominent site at the heart of the University of Kentucky's historic Lexington campus, at the intersection of Limestone and Scott Streets adjacent to the School of Education. The building presents formal fronts both to the greater university campus and to its own internal courtyards. The primary entrance, with its colonnaded porch, faces east toward the campus's central green and historic Main Building. An open-air entrance off of Scott Street connects directly into the main courtyard, which is framed by three pavilions: to the west, the law library with its own quiet courtyard on the second level; to the south, the moot courtroom; and a double-height commons to the east. A two-story wing to the south contains classrooms and seminar rooms, and a three-story wing to the north provides offices for administrators, faculty, and student organizations. The College carries forward the Colonial Georgian architectural vocabulary of the campus with rich red brick, a Kentucky limestone water table, white-painted trim, and slate roofs.
