Join RAMSA Partner Grant Marani and Senior Associates Andrew McIntyre and Charles Toothill on October 18, 2020 at 11:00am EST for a presentation about the design and construction of Edwin's Place, a supportive housing building located in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Edwin’s Place will provide 78 apartments dedicated to formerly homeless individuals and families and 47 affordable apartments to community residents and veterans. The 116,500-square-foot, eight-story building will incorporate communal facilities and shops into the ground floor to contribute to the developing Livonia Avenue retail corridor. It will also cradle a sunken courtyard that will provide outdoor amenities for residents, as well as light to lower level offices for social service staff, a fitness center, a computer lab, and meeting rooms. Edwin’s Place is RAMSA’s second collaboration with Breaking Ground, an organization that has been developing supportive and affordable housing as well as programs for homeless and other vulnerable New Yorkers since 1990. Today, Breaking Ground operates nearly 4,000 units of housing across New York City, along with housing in upstate New York and Connecticut.
Andrew McIntyre is a senior associate at Robert A.M. Stern Architects. He joined the firm in 2013 and is currently serving as project manager for Edwin’s Place, a supportive housing building in Brooklyn, New York; and private residences in Berlin and Hong Kong. In 2018, Andrew was named a Forefront Fellow by the Urban Design Forum, where he completed a year-long research study into issues surrounding homelessness in the built environment.
Charles Toothill is a senior associate at Robert A.M. Stern Architects. He joined the firm in 1998 and has contributed to the design and management of numerous projects including the LEED Gold Immanuel Chapel at the Virginia Theological Seminary and residential projects in Hong Kong, San Francisco, and Palo Alto. He is currently serving as project architect for Edwin’s Place, a supportive housing development in Brooklyn, New York to be completed this fall.
