Sourcing Material Transformations: Restoring Riads in Morocco

Sourcing Material Transformations: Restoring Riads in Morocco

Join us on Wednesday, May 24, at 5:00PM for a presentation by 2021 RAMSA Fellow Daniel Hall.

Daniel traveled to Morocco to study the architecture and traditional crafts of the riad, a distinct housing typology with an interior garden or courtyard. He traced the material productions necessary to rebuild each section of the building—stucco carving, tadelakt plasterwork, zellij ceramic tile, wood carving, and horticulture and aquatic practices—and created detailed portraits of the production sites at various scales.

Daniel received a Master of Architecture degree from Princeton University in 2022 and joined RAMSA that same year.

The RAMSA Fellowship is a travel and research grant that promotes investigations into the perpetuation of tradition through invention. To learn more about the fellowship, visit www.ramsa.com/fellowship.
