RAMSA Partner Alexander P. Lamis to Lead Archtober Tour at Bronx Community College
11:00 am - 12:00 pm
North Hall and Library, Bronx Community College, 2155 University Avenue, Bronx, New York 10453

RAMSA Partner Alexander P. Lamis will lead a tour of the firm's North Hall and Library at Bronx Community College as part of Archtober's Building of the Day program. The fifth annual New York City Architecture and Design Month features special tours, lectures, films and exhibitions that focus on the importance of architecture and design in everyday life and aims to raise international recognition of the richness of New York’s built environment. The Archtober Building of the Day program celebrates contemporary as well as historic architecture in New York City with daily on-site tours led by architects.

Stanford White planned what was originally New York University's University Heights campus and designed six buildings. In 1956, New York University called on Marcel Breuer to create a modernist master plan for the campus; he went on to design five buildings. RAMSA's North Hall and Library carries forward White's approach to celebrate learning for commuting students who seek to further their education while also holding down full-time jobs and caring for families. In another return to tradition, our design embraces a decorative arts program with mural scenes of the Bronx by local artists Daniel Hauben at the main stair landings and on the balcony frieze in the commons, and Greek-key stenciling on the vaulted ceiling by Cid Mendez.

RAMSA Partners Robert A.M. Stern, Augusta Barone, Alexander P. Lamis, and Graham S. Wyatt led the design of North Hall and Library.
