RAMSA Partner Preston J. Gumberich and Senior Associate Breen M. Mahony to Present UConn Downtown Hartford at SCUP North Atlantic
On Monday, March 5, RAMSA Partner Preston J. Gumberich and Senior Associate Breen M. Mahony will present "UConn's Regional Campus Transitions from Suburbia to Landmark Building Downtown" at the Society for College and University Planning's North Atlantic Regional Conference, held from March 4-6 in Boston, Massachusetts. Presenting with them will be the University of Connecticut's Master Planner and Chief Architect Laura Cruickshank and James Libby.

The University of Connecticut's Downtown Hartford campus responds to the student-driven trend toward campuses in urban centers with cultural institutions and access to mass transit. Mr. Gumberich and Mr. Mahony will discuss how the new campus incorporates the colonnaded facade of the Hartford Times Building, preserving and reactivating a vacant local landmark while adding 180,000 square feet of new classrooms, offices, and social spaces. The presentation will consider strategies for interaction and collaboration on campus plans specific to the renovation and repurposing of underutilized buildings in urban areas. UConn Downtown Hartford opened in August 2017. RAMSA Partners Robert A.M. Stern, Graham S. Wyatt, and Preston J. Gumberich led the design effort. For more information about the project, please click here.
