Robert A.M. Stern Honored by the Arts + Business Council for Greater Philadelphia

Today the Arts + Business Council for Greater Philadelphia presented Robert A.M. Stern with the Anne D'Harnoncourt Award for Artistic Excellence, "for his contribution to Philadelphia's architectural vitality, and for his lifetime dedication to American architectural history and education."

"I am pleased to accept this award honoring Anne D'Harnoncourt, a wonderful steward of Philadelphia's artistic legacy—although I am a New Yorker, I feel very much at home in Philadelphia," said Mr. Stern. "I accept this award on behalf of my professional partners and colleagues, many of whom have been working with me for decades. As well, our work would not be possible without our clients who over the years have entrusted us with their dreams and ambitions for this great city."

Robert A.M. Stern Architects' work in Philadelphia includes Comcast Center, the master plan for the revitalization of the Philadelphia Navy Yard as a mixed-use neighborhood, buildings at Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania, a residential tower and a meetinghouse for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints just north of the Vine Street Expressway, and the Museum of the American Revolution near Independence Hall.

The Arts + Business Council is dedicated to ensuring the success of Philadelphia’s creative economy through leadership development programs, events and volunteer opportunities that help make the sector more productive, impactful and inclusive. The Council’s annual awards program honors leaders in the Philadelphia region who embody and foster cross-sector collaboration between creative and business communities. The Anne D'Harnoncourt Award for Artistic Excellence is dedicated to the memory of Anne D'Harnoncourt, who served as director of the Philadelphia Museum of Art from 1982 to 2008.
