Description

West Beach Village, intended to serve as town center for the Kiawah Island resort community, combines Low Country vernacular with more formal architectural traditions. Approached along a prominent live-oak allée, a new 150-key hotel, its central mass inspired by columned antebellum mansions, will offer meeting space, dining, and shops; restaurants will anchor each end of a boardwalk that runs along the beach.

The picturesque Colonial Revival-style golf clubhouse, with splayed wings and sprawling porches, is set on axis with the hotel; it will accommodate a pro shop, a lounge, and a dining room with a bar overlooking the 18th green of the Cougar Point course redesigned by Gary Player in 1996 and renovated in 2017.

A new conference center will support public and private functions as well as Kiawah Island Golf Resort's administrative offices. Its main entrance, angled to open a visual axis to the hotel, is set atop an inclined drive offering guests elevated views over the rolling landscape. On the west side of the building, a side porch faces the new villa check-in building, welcoming visitors who rent houses on the island.
