House on Lily Pond Lane Wins 2020 Stanford White Award

The Institute of Classical Architecture and Art has announced that RAMSA's House on Lily Pond Lane has won a 2020 Stanford White Award in the Residential Architecture Renovations & Additions category. Partner Randy Correll led the design.

The project began as a renovation to a 1920s era Colonial style house on one of East Hampton’s most picturesque lanes. The original floor plan and central stair hall appealed to our client, but the first floor’s ceilings were too low. Although technically possible to raise the second story and roof, it ultimately proved more practical to tear down the main wing, lay a fresh foundation, and rebuild.

The new structure shares the same general mass and profile as its predecessor, with a gabled roofline, pedimented entrance, and bracketed cornices. Cladding the entire house in Alaskan yellow-cedar shingles, however, gave it a completely fresh look and feel. Inside, the floor plan retains the straightforwardness that first attracted the client to the house. Outside, we introduced a series of porches inspired by a McKim, Mead & White house in nearby Southampton, wrapping the front facade in one continuous porch, with pedimented pavilions at each end.

The Stanford White Awards program recognizes achievement in individual projects in architecture, interiors, landscape, urbanism, and building craftsmanship & artisanship throughout New York, New Jersey, and Fairfield County, Connecticut. The awards program is named in honor of Stanford White (1853-1906), of the distinguished New York firm McKim, Mead & White, whose legacy of design excellence and creativity in architecture and the related arts continues to serve as a source of inspiration and delight.

The ICAA is excited to announce that the 9th Annual Stanford White Awards will be made available to all, in a special presentation that will stream on Wednesday, December 2nd, at 7:00 PM EST.
