Related Midwest Celebrates the Opening of Bennett Park

Today Related Midwest celebrated the dedication of Bennett Park, a formerly underutilized 1.7-acre green space reimagined by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates adjacent to One Bennett Park, a slender 70-story residential tower designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects. The new publicly accessible but privately owned park includes two dog runs, a shaded grove with seating, a bermed “lawn bowl,” and a children’s play area with slides, huts, a saucer swing, and a timber climbing forest.

Overlooking the new greenery is One Bennett Park with its Kansas limestone base, metal detailing, punched windows, glassy stacked bays and vertical setbacks which enliven the composition.  An asymmetrical crown that steps up toward the city as it favors views to Lake Michigan, makes for a memorable skyline silhouette. RAMSA Partners Robert A.M. Stern and Daniel Lobitz led the design effort. GREC served as associate architect.

One Bennett Park adds to Robert A.M. Stern Architects’ growing portfolio of top-level apartment buildings which includes 15 Central Park West, 220 Central Park South, 520 Park Avenue, 30 Park Place, and 70 Vestry in New York City, as well as buildings in Boston, Toronto, Washington, Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. One Bennett Park is the firm’s first Chicago building.

Related Midwest, the Chicago office of Related Companies, is dedicated to creating timeless additions to Chicago’s skyline that respond to the needs of specific neighborhoods. The company prides itself on local knowledge, and for thirty years has been dedicated to improving the city through master-planned developments, residential buildings, and parks that have widely been recognized as best-in-class.
