Late Entry to the Tribune Tower Competition is now on view as part of
Past Forward: Architecture and Design at the Art Institute, the inaugural exhibition of the Art Institute of Chicago's new modern and contemporary architecture and design galleries.
The drawing was originally prepared for the 1980 "Late Entries" exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, organized by architects Stanley Tigerman and Stuart Cohen, which invited architecture firms to revisit the 1921-1922 Chicago Tribune Tower Competition. Taking as our primary reference Adolf Loos' entry in the original competition, we married his concept to a Miesian prism of the same period, the most advanced expression of the steel skyscraper at that time and now, envisioning an age-old synthesis of tradition and technology.
