Sargent Gardiner leads tour of The Turrets for ICAA video series

RAMSA and firm Partner Sargent C. Gardiner are pleased to be a part ICAA Travel Revisited, a video series that takes viewers to remarkable architectural and design destinations around the globe. In the latest installment, Mr. Gardiner leads a tour of The Turrets, located in Bar Harbor, Maine.

The town of Bar Harbor, and its lush surroundings on Mount Desert Island on the coast of Maine, boasts some of the most picturesque landscapes in the country. This of course attracted the attention of the nation's most powerful families, who flocked to the island beginning in the 1870's to build their coastal retreats. The Turrets is a notable example of these summer homes - a grand, massive granite house designed by prominent New York architect Bruce Price for wealthy Cincinnati businessman John J. Emery in 1895. Now situated on the campus of the College of the Atlantic, the house's design still offers valuable lessons in architectural style, and in using local materials to adapt classical design to its surrounding context.
