Description

The new 208,000-square-foot, four-story LEED-Platinum office building for leading worldwide research-based pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline, located at Five Crescent Drive in Philadelphia's Navy Yard Corporate Center, is a dynamic, invigorating workplace for the 21st century. A street-like central atrium brings natural daylight into the core of the building while connecting to amenities such as a cafe, company store, and fitness center. A sculptural spiraling stair promotes walking between floors, providing additional opportunities for chance encounters and the exchange of ideas. Energy-efficient glass interior and exterior walls bring natural daylight into the office floors and offer views of the Navy Yard and Center City Philadelphia.

The building's loft-like office floors feature unassigned seating rather than private offices or cubicles; employees are encouraged to work in a variety of locations throughout the day, helping foster collaboration across the entire building. Work spaces include adjustable-height desks, team tables, meeting areas, social areas, and quiet rooms; amenities include a fitness center, restaurant, retail services, and free parking for employees and visitors. The building's landscaped roof, which reduces energy costs and absorbs storm water, accommodates up to 500 people for conferences and receptions.

The building was ranked first among Management Today's "Five Blue-Chips with Amazing Offices" (June 20, 2013) and among Keystone Edge's "Pennsylvania's Five Coolest Green Buildings" feature (May 16, 2013).
