RAMSA Hosts Longhouse Reserve’s Larsen Salon Series

RAMSA Hosts Longhouse Reserve’s Larsen Salon Series

RAMSA was delighted to host the Larsen Salon Series, an initiative by the LongHouse Reserve, a 16-acre integrated sculpture garden for which RAMSA Partners Michael D Jones and Paul L. Whalen serve as board members.

The night featured architect Michael Arad in conversation with author and critic Paul Goldberger, who is also a board member. As the designer of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, Arad presented the Emanuel Nine Memorial, now under construction in Charleston, along with a concept for the COVID-19 Memorial in Central Park.

Goldberger and Arad talked about loss, memory, forgiveness, the power of place, community, and contemplation in public spaces. To close the evening, Arad observed, “Public spaces are important in our society — for many reasons — but primarily, I think, because it gives us a shared sense of identity. As an architect, when you can contribute to that, it’s very gratifying.”

LongHouse Reserve’s Larsen Salon Series honors Jack Lenor Larsen (1927-2020) and facilitates thought-provoking conversations with designers, architects, and artists working at the intersection of art, architecture, design, and craft.
