RAMSA Exhibition “Jeff Stikeman: Collaborations with RAMSA” Opens

On March 7, 2019, Robert A.M. Stern Architects launched “Jeff Stikeman: Collaborations with RAMSA,” the fifth exhibition in its ongoing series honoring the firm’s commitment to hand drawing, and the first to focus on one individual’s work.

Robert A.M. Stern Architects relies on Jeff Stikeman to communicate the firm’s design intent with atmosphere, vibrancy, and the appropriate level of detail for the project phase. RAMSA began collaborating with Mr. Stikeman in 2004 on pursuits at Miami University. Early experiments together were monochrome pencil renderings in the style of Otto Eggers (1882-1964) who, like Mr. Stikeman, brought his background as a practicing architect to bear on his renderings. Over time, color and other drawing media were introduced, so that each view could be tailored to convey a specific message appropriate to the stage of development of each project. The Firm employs all manner of visual representation in its practice, from gestural sketches to photorealistic digital renderings; however, especially in the early stages of design, the firm values loose, sketch-like renderings which can give a general sense of direction without foreclosing possibilities or telegraphing design solutions as faits accomplis.

The Sketch Gallery Jury— Kevin M. Smith, Partner; C. Callaway Hayles, Senior Associate; Christopher Heim, (Chair) Senior Associate,  Armando Amaral, Associate; Benjamin Bourgoin, and Huaxia Song—is pleased to celebrate RAMSA’s unique collaboration with Jeff Stikeman.
