Join us on Wednesday, February 4, at 5:00 p.m. for a presentation by 2024 Stern Study recipients Regine Swanson and Joyce Zhou.
Regine and Joyce traveled to Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat, Hue, Hanoi, and Ninh Binh to study how Vietnamese civic and religious architecture reflects Chinese and neoclassical traditions, and at times their fusion into an Indochinese expression. Their research examines how these influences were preserved, adapted, and articulated in the details and craftsmanship of historic structures.
Now in its tenth year, the Stern Study is a travel and research grant awarded to RAMSA staff. The program supports explorations into a location’s sense of place through targeted, on‑site study. It also allows staff to pursue personal interests that connect to and expand the firm’s research‑based design principles.
