Robert A.M. Stern Architects and Ferrell Mittman are pleased to introduce a new collection of furniture, the result of close collaboration between the world-renowned New York-based architecture firm and one of the most trusted to-the-trade brands in the furniture industry.
The collection is the culmination of our firm's vision and the expertise of Ferrell Mittman's leadership. Said Lauren Kruegel Siroky, Design Director of the Interior Design Department at Robert A.M. Stern Architects, "We were very impressed by the hands-on work of the craftspeople on the Ferrell Mittman factory floor, who worked and reworked our designs to get them just right; it was clearly a labor of love for them as for us."
Lawrence Chabra, Studio Director of Robert A.M. Stern Architects' Interior Design Department, added: "Our goal was not only perfection in visual proportion, choice of materials, and detailing; comfort was also paramount. With the help of the Ferrell Mittman team, we have hit the balanced sweet spot of style and comfort."
The collection will be the subject of a webinar to be held on Thursday, May 21, at 2:00 pm; a RAMSA Storyboard post tells the story of the collection from inception to realization.
The collection has launched with 11 pieces. Three sofas include the Webb sofa, featuring soft and sleek compound curves and a low profile scaled to apartments but a presence appropriate for lobbies; the Whitefield, with wood-paneled sides and back in one of several new RAMSA designed cerused-oak finishes, inspired by the firm's custom residential millwork and appropriate for formal settings, libraries, or home offices; and the comfortable, versatile, and infinitely customizable Embury sectional. The sensuous contours of the Olin chair, inspired by mid-20th-century designers such as Frits Henningsen and Carl Malmsten, offered with either turned or tapered legs, is perfect for both traditional and contemporary settings; we've also designed a coordinated ottoman. The McClintock table, its book-matched top with a denticulated edge supported by four tapered legs set on a plinth, works both as a dining table and as a centerpiece in a foyer or hall. The Lauren console, with the interior of its sweeping convex sides finished in lacquer or leaf, can be outfitted with a drawer to serve as a desk. The Pitman console, inspired by the work of architect Joze Plecnik, is supported at each end by paired turned columns, with an inboard pair of columns that chamfer from round to square as they rise; it offers a glass top that shows off the metal-leaf detailing or, alternatively, a stone top. The Clark cocktail table and side table also feature concave legs and can be ordered with wood or inset limestone tops. The similarly styled Benson bedside table is outfitted with convenient power and data connections. Another climax of the collection is the Nadya bed, with upholstered panels in the base to match the upholstery of the sophisticated headboard. Additional pieces will be brought to market over time. This new collection for Ferrell Mittman joins Robert A.M.
