Biography

With a conviction that architecture has a responsibility to future generations, Johnny Cruz design projects that encourage a holistic relationship between buildings, people, and the environment.

Johnny is inspired by the transformative power of architecture to enrich cities and improve lives – the lives of those who occupy a building and the lives of those who simply walk by it. His belief in architecture as a civic act is reflected in his advocacy for sustainable design and construction strategies. It's also evident in his record of designing buildings that consistently exceed industry standards in performance and market value. In addition to his responsibilities as partner, Johnny is one of RAMSA's leading experts in emerging design and collaboration technologies, and regularly gives presentations and workshops to share his knowledge of software platforms.

As partner, Johnny has worked on market-leading multifamily residential developments in the U.S. and abroad, including RAMSA's first residential project in Minneapolis, the award-winning Heart of Lake high-rise garden suburb in Xiamen, China, and 1468 Alberni, a new residential tower in Vancouver that will be the world's biggest and tallest Passive House-certified project – as well as the firm's first. His project experience also includes hotels and resorts such as 30 Park Place in New York City, the Waldorf Astoria in Atlanta, Georgia, and a 2,400-acre master plan for the Harmony Cove Resort and Village in Trelawny, Jamaica.

Johnny Cruz is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Congress for the New Urbanism, the Urban Land Institute, and the Regional Plan Association. He is also a member of the National Organization of Minority Architects, and partner liaison to RAMSA's Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Alliance (IDEA). Johnny has also served as a guest critic at this alma mater, the Notre Dame School of Architecture.
