Johnny Cruz, AIA

Partner

Johnny Cruz, Partner, joined Robert A.M. Stern Architects in 1996. He has been responsible for the design of a diverse body of work including large-scale planning projects, mixed-use developments, multifamily residential buildings, hotels and resorts, and institutional buildings.

Johnny is inspired by the transformative power of architecture to enrich cities and improve the lives of those who occupy a building, those who simply walk by, and future generations. His belief in architecture as a civic act is reflected in his advocacy for sustainable design and construction strategies that encourage a holistic relationship between buildings, people, and the environment.

His record of designing buildings that consistently exceed industry standards for performance and market value speaks for itself. That includes domestic multifamily residential developments—such as the towering 220 Central Park South, an evolution of the firm’s work along the corridor south of the park that continues to command record-high prices—and abroad, such as the award-winning Heart of Lake high-rise garden suburb in Xiamen, China; and projects in Shanghai, Hangzhou.

Johnny’s current projects include The Ritz-Carlton Residences, The Woodlands, a high-end residential complex north of Houston that filters the firm’s apartment experience through local architectural vernacular, and the St. Regis Residences, an Art Deco-inspired tower on the edge of Biscayne Bay with sweeping views of Miami.

One of RAMSA's leading experts in emerging design and collaboration technologies, Johnny regularly gives presentations and workshops to share his knowledge of software platforms. He has served as a guest critic at both the University of Notre Dame and Yale University, and as the Michael C. Duda Visiting Professor of the Practice for the School of Architecture at Notre Dame in spring of 2022.
