House on Hook Pond

East Hampton, New York

2010

Project Partners

Description

Our client was drawn to the modest character of an existing house located on a small pond in the Village of East Hampton that had been owned by a couple who were both artists. We were asked to breathe new life into the house without sacrificing its casual composition. What had been the living room is now a master suite; the studio, retaining its homey finishes and the artists' work table, easel, and a half-dozen of their works, has been repurposed as the living room. An adjacent two-car garage has been replaced by an abstractly-massed two-story guest wing which, with its large windows, gives the appearance of a studio when viewed from the pond.
