Description

This 110,000-square-foot new home for the Collat School of Business and the Bill L. Harbert Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is located on a gateway site on the University of Alabama's downtown Birmingham campus. A variety of classrooms and collaborative spaces supports the University’s business programs for both undergraduate and graduate students including the Center for Sales Leadership, the Healthcare Leadership Academy, and the Regions Institute for Financial Education.

A landscaped forecourt on the east side of the building opens to a three-story commons, a large atrium with a cafe and a terrace surrounded by classrooms and team rooms. An open stair connects the commons with an additional two floors of classrooms and faculty offices above. The main entrance to the Harbert Institute, located on the north side of the building, capitalizes on the slope of the site. The building’s west-facing entrance leads to a 250-seat auditorium.

The four-story building combines traditional brick cladding and conventional windows on the east and west facades, and contemporary glass curtainwalls north and south.
