As interior design architect for the Ocean Terrace development in North Beach, RAMSA uses classical proportions to unify the sleek shapes of early 20th-century Miami Beach resort architecture with an expressive mid-century modern material palette. The residences, amenities, hotel, private club, and restaurant all feature a mix of traditional details, modern forms, and subtle nautical references.
Designed by Revuelta, the Ocean Terrace project unites several existing structures and facades into one complex. The hotel, restaurant, and some private club spaces are located within historic buildings, and the development is topped with two new towers: one containing 52 boutique residences, and the other, 24 hotel-condo residences.
The RAMSA-designed apartment floor plans ensure that all living rooms and primary bedrooms have ocean views while retaining classic room proportions, and that the flexible layouts are easily furnished. Units in the first tower are defined by Parquet de Versailles oak flooring and a material palette of veined marble and light wood—with each room opening to a curving balcony—while units in the second retain the same beach-influenced atmosphere. Furnishings in the hotel-condo tower, as well as the hotel, restaurant, private club, and residential amenity spaces, are either designed or curated by RAMSA.
A grand residential lobby draws inspiration from the city’s Art Deco and Miami Modern heritage. Decorative entry door screens, a pediment with a shell motif, and custom brass wall sconces all enliven the lobby, and a reception desk sculpted from dark marble anchors the room. Travertine flooring meets butt-jointed wood paneling reminiscent of mid-century Brazilian interiors, overlaid with modern classical details such as colonnettes and a thin entablature, before culminating in a grand arch that frames the tropical landscape outside. A semi-circular library and a tearoom connect to the lobby and share a material palette of travertine, dark wood, and rattan, and both look out to the private garden and adjacent Raymond Jungles-designed park. Our interiors ultimately combine the best of historic Miami Beach, Brazilian modernism, and 21st century living to establish an intimate, yet gracious, private enclave within the resort village.
