Traditional Building magazine announced Robert A.M. Stern Architects as 2023 Palladio Award winners, honoring the Schwarzman Center for excellence in Restoration & Renovation and the Jane Pinchin and Burke Halls under the category of Residential Multi-Unit Projects.
Designed by RAMSA Partners, Melissa DelVecchio, Jennifer Stone, and Graham S. Wyatt, the Schwarzman Center at Yale University focuses on transforming the historic academic landmark into a modern, active campus center for dining, performances, and events intended to unite undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, as well as the wider Yale community – faculty, staff, and alumni – and guests from Yale’s host city of New Haven and beyond.
Jane Pinchin and Burke Halls transform Colgate University’s on-campus housing and redefine the student experience as the first new projects built specifically to support Colgate's Residential Commons initiative. RAMSA Partners, Preston J. Gumberich and Graham S. Wyatt, designed Pinchin and Burke Halls as "fraternal twins", clad in locally quarried bluestone with unique cast stone accents and cupolas. Their form, materials, and restrained ornament continue the architectural vocabulary established by the university's first building, West Hall, in 1827.
Produced by Traditional Building, Period Homes, and the Traditional Building Conference, the annual Palladio Awards honor outstanding achievement in traditional design. For over 20 years, the Palladio Awards has recognized both individual designers and design teams whose work enhances the beauty and humane qualities of the built environment.
